2022 Jazz in June Music Festival - June 10-12
2022 Artists.
We are thrilled to announce the artists that will be performing at Christ Episcopal Church's 7th Annual Flagship Music Festival,
2022 Jazz in June!
Award winning artist Nellie McKay's debut album, Get Away from Me, released in 2004, was included on several "Best albums of 2004" lists. She has since gone on to record eight more, appear on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera and in several movies. Nellie has also written three acclaimed music biographies, and her music has been featured in numerous television shows and films.
Artist Jon Cleary was raised in the rural British village of Cranbrook Kent, and made his way to New Orleans as soon as he could. He has released numerous albums and over the years has played with some of the city's most legendary R&B performers, including Earl“TrickBag”King and Snooks Eaglin. Jon won a Grammy in 2015 for his album Go Go Juice. Jon and his band, The Absolute Monster Gentlemen, will bring their unique brand of funk and R&B music to the Northshore in January.
New Orleans band Handmade Moments features the delightful, multi-instrumentalists duo of Anna Moss and Joel Ludford. Rock, jazz, folk and Southern roots all come together in a big pot of musical stew that is their latest record, Paw Paw Tree. A favorite artist from the virtual edition of "Jazz in January" in 2021, we are super excited to have this talented band back for 2022.
Founded in 2013, Minos the Saint is not what you would call a “traditional” southern Louisiana band. The ensemble plays mostly original music, with a variety of influences which yield experimental-yet-accessible original folk rock, uniquely representing Louisiana and the world. Cajun and Zydeco roots are joined by Latin, Jazz, and Eastern European styles, along with the group's shared classical background. Minos the Saint uses a variety of timbres including voice, guitar, piano, drums, violin, mandolin, and a brass section, and the accordion.
Rounding out this amazing group of artists is local band Cactus Thief. Formed in 2016 around the songs of bandleader Aaron Maras, the band's songs sound new, yet harkens back to the music of traditional dance hall bands of Louisiana. Cactus Thief mixes rock n roll, gospel, country and traditional Cajun music to create folk music with a modern sound.
Don't miss out! Join us June 10-11, 2022 to catch this fantastic artist lineup!
Sunday, June 12, 2022 for our Special "Shower the People" Jazz Mass highlighting award winning singer-songwriters of the 1970s
